Le Centre d’Etudes Maghrébines à Tunis (CEMAT) is the overseas research center of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies.

Established in 1987 through a cooperative agreement with the Government of Tunisia, CEMAT is the overseas research center of the American Institute for Maghrib Studies. Located in a quiet villa in the downtown suburb of Menzah V, CEMAT offers a specialized library with works primarily in English on the Maghrib and regularly organizes lectures, workshops and conferences on a variety of topics across disciplines. CEMAT is located close to downtown Tunis and nearby the Tunisian national archives, national library, documentation centers and private library collections.  CEMAT collaborates its activities closely with Tunisian research institutions as well as with universities across the country.
