Historic Preservation in North Africa
Susan Slyomovics, UCLA, and Diana Wylie, Boston University
The workshop will take place in Oran, Algeria between 11 and 14 May. We will have two panels each morning filled with academics and architects from across the Maghreb speaking about historic preservation. In the afternoon we’ll have tours of the city of Oran and a round table discussion involving local activists in the field of preservation. Diana Wylie will talk about historic preservation in Boston and Charleston (SC) at the opening reception on May 11th and on the final day we will all have a tour of Les Andalouses, a site designed by renowned architect Fernand Pouillon.
